Head of Sector Intelligence
Phil leads the Sector Intelligence Team, which provides strategic and technical insights into the health and social care sector. Following a PhD in Neuroscience, Phil spent six years at Cardiff University conducting postdoctoral research into behavioural and molecular aspects of learning and memory. On leaving academia to pursue a more commercial direction, he joined a consultancy start-up, providing business intelligence services to large pharmaceutical companies.
In 2010, he returned to Cardiff University with the Commercial Development Team, where he was responsible for identifying, protecting and exploiting high-value Intellectual Property generated by the life sciences schools via licensing deals and the creation of spinout companies. Following this, Phil spent six years at the Development Bank of Wales, sourcing and executing venture capital deals between £100k and £1.5m into high-growth life sciences companies.
