The Department for Health and Social Care has provided a response to the targeted consultation on Proposals for updating Part IX of the Drug Tariff – Medical Devices available for prescribing in Primary Care. The consultation was open between October 2023 and January 2024 and was targeted rather than public, owing to its complex subject matter. The Consultation Response sets out the government’s response and the next steps.
The Department for Health and Social Care intends to work closely with industry, patients, clinicians and NHS organisations as it develops categorisation for Part IX and quality and social value attributes for evaluation. There are some very good devices in use, relied upon by clinicians and patients. This will be reflected in determining the attributes of products, as well as factors important to patients and the wider value of the product.
