We’re pleased to welcome Jeremy Miles MS as the new Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care at a pivotal time for Wales. Welsh Government is focused on reducing waiting times and improving access to care, while embracing innovation in health and social care delivery.
In his inaugural statement, Jeremy Miles emphasised his commitment to championing and challenging NHS Wales to deliver better outcomes for patients, aligning closely with our goal to drive innovation across the sector.
“The public wants to see waiting times come down and faster access to care and treatment,” he said. “I am committed to supporting and challenging NHS Wales to adopt best practices and innovative solutions to improve patient outcomes.”
With a strong background in education and social justice, Jeremy brings valuable experience to his role. His focus on reducing waiting times and enhancing cancer care is crucial, as seen during his recent visit to the breast cancer centre of excellence at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr, which has benefitted from nearly £11 million of Welsh Government funding. This commitment resonates with our efforts to support innovation in cancer care, particularly through the use of Digital, AI, and Precision Medicine.
We remain dedicated to accelerating the adoption of these technologies in healthcare delivery and look forward to collaborating with the new Cabinet Secretary to drive transformative change. Jeremy has also highlighted the need for Health Boards to learn from best practices to ensure all patients in Wales receive high-quality care. This aligns with our mission to foster collaboration and innovation across the sector.
We welcome Jeremy Miles’ leadership and vision and look forward to continuing our support for leveraging innovation to address the health and social care challenges of today and tomorrow.
