Working closely with our Senior Leadership Team and Board, Catrin joins our Senior Management Team and will lead the planning and delivery of programmes that help identify, evaluate and implement health and social care innovation across Wales.

In her role, Catrin will work with partners across the NHS, social care, industry, academia and key private and public sector support services to identify unmet needs and match the best opportunities to health and social care priorities. This will include helping to remove barriers to adoption and supporting the culture change needed to embed innovation across the sector.

Catrin brings extensive experience in health research and has worked collaboratively across organisations at a national level, with a thorough knowledge of health and innovation in Wales. Originally from Creigiau on the outskirts of Cardiff, Catrin obtained a PhD in translational cancer research from the University of Nottingham before beginning her career with Cancer Research UK in London. She then led a flagship lung cancer pre-screening trial across the UK as Head of Precision Medicine, before returning to Wales in 2018 to lead the Welsh Government’s Genomics for Precision Medicine Strategy, establishing Genomics Partnership Wales to drive collaboration and a unified approach to genomics in Wales.

Rhodri Griffiths, Innovation and Adoption Director, Life Sciences Hub Wales, said:

“Catrin brings a wealth of experience in programme delivery, projects and trials working with the NHS in Wales and England, alongside a deep knowledge of genomics and precision medicine. Catrin’s experience will be invaluable, and we’re delighted to welcome her to the team as we continue to strengthen our work supporting the adoption of innovation in health and social care across Wales.”

Dr Catrin Middleton, Head of Programme Delivery, Life Sciences Hub Wales, said:

“I’m delighted to be joining Life Sciences Hub Wales, especially at a time when improving patient experience and outcomes matters more than ever. I’m passionate about working with patients and partners across the system to turn innovation into practical improvement in health and social care. I’m looking forward to exploring barriers to adoption so that innovation can reach people faster across Wales.”

Catrin’s appointment reflects the growing need to strengthen how innovation is adopted and spread across health and social care in Wales. With increasing pressures on the NHS and social care services, innovation plays a vital role in improving outcomes for people in Wales and helping services respond to complex challenges. At Life Sciences Hub Wales, we’re focused on supporting partners to move promising solutions from assessment into real-world use, reducing barriers to implementation and driving impact for patients, services and the wider economy.

Organisations with innovations ready for assessment or adoption, as well as health and social care teams seeking solutions to adoption challenges, are encouraged to get in touch with us at hello@lshubwales.com.
