ATiC (part of the University of Wales Trinity St David) is a research and business support centre focused on the development of assistive technologies. The centre offers access to academic expertise, and cutting-edge facilities including UX laboratories and prototyping facilities.
AberInnovation (part of Aberystwyth University) offers facilities and expertise for businesses within biotech, agri-tech, and food and drink sectors. Specifically, AberInnovation has five centres, focused on biorefining, future foods, advanced analysis, seed biobanking and innovation.
A Regional Collaboration for Health (ARCH) is a collaboration between three strategic partners; Swansea Bay University Health Board, Hywel Dda University Health Board and Swansea University. ARCH aims to improve health and reduce inequalities in its areas and to overcome challenges within rural and urban healthcare.

The faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences houses the Swansea University Medical School. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework, Swansea showed particular strength in Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy research.
Cardiff Metropolitan University is attended by around 22,000 students split across five schools: Art and Design, Education and Social Policy, Management, Sport and Health Sciences, and Technologies.
Cardiff University is Wales's only member of the Russell Group of research-intensive British universities. The university is attended by around 34,000 students and includes the Cardiff University School of Medicine. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework, the university was recognised as a centre of excellence for psychology, psychiatry, and neuroscience.
Bangor University, located in North Wales, is attended by around 10,000 students. Research in the university focusses on three key themes of energy and the environment; health, wellbeing, and behaviour; and language, culture, and society. The North Wales Medical School is housed within the university, with the first student intake for Medicine expected in September 2024.
