DHEW kickstarts 2019 events calendar with a look at APIs in healthcare

The Digital Health Ecosystem Wales programme hosted it’s spring event at the Life Sciences Hub Wales on 13 March 2019. Over 80 delegates attended the event which looked at ways APIs can contribute to the transformation of healthcare and brought together experts from digital health and technology.

The event was split into two sessions with the morning showcasing the APIs currently being used in healthcare that have had a significant impact on improving delivery and outcomes for patients, clinicians and staff. The session saw a number of NHS and industry experts give their take on the work of APIs in healthcare and the opportunities they see for the sector. We heard from speakers such as Alistair Martin, CCO of Transforming System who discussed how integrating data in real-time improves pathways of care and Pearce Mutendera of Oracle who showcased two real life use cases of APIs in healthcare.

The afternoon saw the audience take a technical deep dive into APIs that have been developed and delivered through the ecosystem, led by Geoff Norton from NWIS. The technical session covered how the HAPI server was created, the development of documentation and was also an opportunity for attendees to learn how to build demo apps using the APIs.

Raj Modi, Senior Director of Healthcare Innovation at Oracle attended the event and had this to say:

“I think it’s fantastic to see the collaboration between various health organisations, the Life Sciences Hub and industry. There have been some fantastic presentations that gave technical perspectives on essentially what we’re trying to do, which is deliver better care for patients through more of an integrated health system.“

The next DHEW event will be on 16 July at the Life Sciences Hub Wales and will be a tech and pitch day. It will be the perfect opportunity to come and play with new technology and see how it works.

Details of the next DHEW event will be published on our events page soon.
