The Welsh Wound Innovation Centre was established to tackle the challenges associated with acute, traumatic and chronic, non-healing wounds and their treatment and prevention. The centre provides education and training, delivers clinical research and provides commercial consultancy services.

The WIDI is a collaboration between the University of Wales Trinity St David (UWTSD) and the NHS Wales Informatics Service (NWIS - Now Digital Health and Care Wales). This partnership has led to the development of initiatives linked to health data management, whilst also allowing the NWIS to contribute to the design of academic programs within UWTSD, whilst giving UWTSD students the opportunity to access work placements and internships.
The Wales Gene Park is funded by the Welsh Government through Health and Care Research Wales, and is hosted in Cardiff University. The Gene Park supports and promotes genetic and genomic research across Wales, aiding the implementation of the Welsh Government’s Genomics for Precision Medicine Strategy. In addition, the Park provide bespoke sequencing and bioinformatic analysis to biomedical research scientists
The Wales Cancer Research Centre is based in Cardiff University and is funded by Health and Care Research Wales. The centre supports research by developing the cancer research strategy for Wales.
