The Defence and Security Accelerator is a UK government funder of innovation for both Defence and Security. Our aim is to find and fund exploitable innovation for a safer future. We have a range of funding to accelerate ideas from any sector for the benefit of Defence and Security. Wales Cancer Biobank

The Wales Cancer Biobank is a project that aims to collect samples of blood and tissue from patients throughout Wales who are having operations where cancer is a possible diagnosis. These samples can then be accessed by researchers for cancer research, and the WCB can also provide technical services such as creating tissue microarrays or collecting microscope images of cells.

The Baker Company is a manufacturer of laboratory products such as biological safety cabinets, clean benches and fume hoods for biotech, pharmaceutical and clinical research applications. In 2011, Baker acquired Bridgend-based Ruskinn Technology, a manufacturer of anaerobic and modified-atmosphere workstations.

Thermo Fisher

Thermo Fisher is a major provider of medical equipment, analytical instruments, reagents and consumables, software and services to the life science industry. In 2011, the company bought Sterilin, a South Wales-based provider of laboratory consumables such as petri dishes, pipettes and sample collection bottles. In addition, Thermo Fisher also own Synexus, an organisation that conduct clinical trials for pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Synexus has a clinic based in Cardiff.
