The Defence and Security Accelerator is a UK government funder of innovation for both Defence and Security. Our aim is to find and fund exploitable innovation for a safer future. We have a range of funding to accelerate ideas from any sector for the benefit of Defence and Security. We want ideas from a diverse range of innovators and have a team of innovation partners, based all over the UK, who are here to help guide those interested in the funding available.

The Wales Cancer Biobank is a project that aims to collect samples of blood and tissue from patients throughout Wales who are having operations where cancer is a possible diagnosis. These samples can then be accessed by researchers for cancer research, and the WCB can also provide technical services such as creating tissue microarrays or collecting microscope images of cells.

Omics Hub Wales is a contract testing laboratory that provides analytical services for proteomics research. Services include protein identification using mass spectrometry, proteome mapping, and gel electrophoresis.

Clear_Pixel VR offer VR-based laboratory procedure training programs, allowing users to interact with laboratory equipment in a virtual environment. In particular, Clear_Pixel have developed neuroscience training modules users to practice electrophysiology experiments.

Human Data Sciences are a Wales-based data science company who have developed Livingstone, an online analytics platform that transforms healthcare data into reports such as epidemiological or economic analyses. The company also provide research services including health economics and outcomes research, pharmacoepidemiological research and data interpretation.

ImmunoServ are a Cardiff University spin out who are developing products and services in immunology. The company are developing immunological tests including T cell testing for COVID-19. Services offered by the company include laboratory services to support the development of new immunoassays.

InBio is a diagnostics company specialising in manufacturing proteins and immunoassays for research and diagnostics into allergies and asthma. The company also provides technical services such as testing for allergens in environmental, biological and food samples.

The Baker Company is a manufacturer of laboratory products such as biological safety cabinets, clean benches and fume hoods for biotech, pharmaceutical and clinical research applications. In 2011, Baker acquired Bridgend-based Ruskinn Technology, a manufacturer of anaerobic and modified-atmosphere workstations.

Thermo Fisher is a major provider of medical equipment, analytical instruments, reagents and consumables, software and services to the life science industry. In 2011, the company bought Sterilin, a South Wales-based provider of laboratory consumables such as petri dishes, pipettes and sample collection bottles. In addition, Thermo Fisher also own Synexus, an organisation that conduct clinical trials for pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Synexus has a clinic based in Cardiff.

Revvity (previously part of Perkin Elmer) is a provider of tools for research and development in laboratories (such as genomic and protein analysis instruments and immunoassays and cell lines), laboratory automation platforms, and clinical diagnostic tests for a range of diseases. The company also provide technical services, including pre-clinical and clinical screening and testing. The company are headquarted in the USA, and have a manufacturing facility in Llantrisant
