Innovation Directory – Wales

The Welsh Wound Innovation Centre was established to tackle the challenges associated with acute, traumatic and chronic, non-healing wounds and their treatment and prevention. The centre provides education and training, delivers clinical research and provides commercial consultancy services.

RPBs have been established as part of Welsh Government's Social Services and Well Being Act to improve the well-being of the population and improve how health and care services are delivered in their region. The West Glamorgan RPB covers the same area as Swansea Bay University Health Board.

The Regional Innovation Co-ordination (RIC) Hubs form a national network funded by Welsh Government. These Hubs sit within the local Health Board and work to enable the Regional Partnership Board's transformation programme and complement the Regional Integrated Fund (RIF) focussing on innovation infrastructure and activity helping to integrate health and care services. This Hub is situated within the West Glamorgan Regional Partnership Board.

Winncare Group is a medical equipment company who specialises in medical beds, hospital furniture, therapeutic mattresses. Winncare is based in Manchester, however Mangar International, a subsidiary who supply safe lifting and pressure care solutions is headquartered in Powys.

Wockhardt is a large pharmaceutical company with a portfolio of over 200 products, including both generic and branded drugs in therapy areas such as pain management, anticoagulation and diabetes. The company has a sterile injectable manufacturing facility in Wrexham that employs around 500 staff. The Wrexham site played a major role in the manufacture of the Astra Zeneca vaccine against COVID-19.
